22/02/08 Dr Neil Hyatt has been awarded two grants: £11,427 by Magnox Electric plc for ‘Desk study for HPA and ILW’ and £214,512 by Magnox Electric plc to study ‘Glass formulation development for Hinkley Point A ILW’.

14/12/08 Robert Liu, 1st Year ISL PhD student, has been awarded a scholarship of £600, to visit Prof. Linn Hobbs at MIT, under the University of Sheffied Excellence Exchange Scheme. The purpose of this exchange visit is for Robert to learn basic molecular dynamics modelling techniques. The aim is for the ISL to host Linn's PhD student, Sarah Rich, on a return visit later this year
27/11/07 John Hudson from BAE gave a presentation entitiled "Astute - the next class of submarines for the Royal Navy" to an audience of over 90 in an evening lecture jointly organised by the ISL, the British Nuclear Energy Society and the Insitution of Nuclear Engineers.
12/11/07 Congratulations to ISL first year postgraduate student Robert Liu who has just received a cheque for £250 from the BNES for best project for his work on Synthesis, Microstructure and Electrical Characterisation of Hollandite Ceramics for Nuclear Waste Immobilisation.
16/10/07 The MRS Scientific Basis for Nuclear Waste Management sympoiums commences in Sheffield. It is hosted by the ISL and is the first time it had been held in the UK. http://mrs2007.sheffield.ac.uk
